Ive got an 88 F350 with a badly corroded positive cable. The insulation is cracked and burnt. cant find any replacement, can someone tell me where to look?
These folks had the cable for $45 and sent it UPS ground for additional $10. Local Ford dealer wanted $100. I've seen these as high as $130. I was very satisfied with product, made of 2/0 cable, and it did make a difference on starter/engine turning speed.
When I worked for an International dealer, we made cables for around $30, cut to fit, ends crimped on and all. Go to your local heavy truck or ag equipment dealer, even some parts shops have the machine to do this.
I had looked into buying the 2/0 cable myself with bolt terminal lugs and have them crimped on but I was at a loss what to do about the battery connectors. Somehow the marine battery terminals with the bolt sticking up didn't look beefy enough. - Dwayne/Florida
You can get either ends you put on yourself, or they should have some themselves. You can bolt off of the tightening lug to transfer power from the other battery.
I just went thru this. 'cept mine was the connector to the starter.
I spent 20.0$ on new crimps. the first was a local shop near my house that said they could do a repair. That was 15.0$ wasted - he crimped it with plyers
fell off as soon as I tried to attach it to the starter. Found a battery alternater ( look for this in the fone book) guy in Chicago who crimped it proper for 5.0$
i was just at a bunch of pick your parts - you could go that route if you are fortunate to have one that only deals in trucks
Only problem I found with my experience: The cable is shorter now- this does not please me- I may at some point have to purchase a new cable- POWERSTRIDE BATTERY site seems pretty decent
1990F250_firstimer: I wish I had known about that site before I bought mine! I got a DEKA brand replacement cable from JCWhitney for $70.00. It is a very nice heavy cable and I believe it is actually better than my old one! I just paid too much for it!
