Ok, I've got a '92 F150, heavy 1/2, 351, E4OD. There's a current thread here bemoaning the fact that the Motorsport MAF conversion doesn't fit the E4OD. Fine, I'll deal with that, but I have a question:
Does anyone know when MAF came out, and did they offer it w/a 351 & E4OD that year? I'm thinking of buying a totalled or rusted-out parts truck and swapping the MAF from it to mine. Yeah, I know I could just swap wiring harnesses and all that, but I'd rather have a parts truck to rape to ensure I get everything I need.
Also, if they didn't offer a 351 that year, would a 302/E4OD MAF system work?
Few '94's had mass air, more '95's had it from the factory. '96 is OBD-II, which would be a pain to swap. I'm not sure what transmissions were used in these trucks, though. If you do the swap with junkyard parts, '94-'95 would be the years you should look for (trucks anyway - cars got mass air back around 89-90, but no electronic auto that early either).

Ok, Thanks! So, what I'll be looking for is a '95 F150/F250 w/ MAF, and hopefully it has the E4OD. I'll go to NAPA today and see what trannys were offered in '95- it's the best way I can think of to check, I mean "parts is parts", right?
Also, over in the other MAF thread is some good info from "Tim (somebody)", and I'll probably utilize some of his advice.
Man, I didn't know this was going to be such a PITA! I might not get this done this summer- I've got WAY to much fishing to do!

all you need to do is use the lightning kit from motorsports. it was made for a 351 w/E4OD tranny. it comes w/everything. wires comp. meter & 30lb injectors. no parts truck needed.

I have no "in" at Ford, and I can't seem to find any info online to agree with you, but if you are indeed correct I'll have that sucker ordered today!
Can anyone supply a link here regarding the Lightning kit? Or maybe email me on the side? I'm very interested in this!
yes i am absolutely sure about the kit. if you have fuel injection w/either E4OD or AODE or any noncomputer operated tranny you can use the lightning one. yes expensive but well worth the money. the kit comes w/a jumper harness for the mass air meter-temp sender in the air box-& all 8 injector wires. comp-30lb injectors-& a new air filter top. easy to install. if you have done anything to your motor in your truck you should have one of these kits. look at my list of stuff in the gallery. i installed the kit & noticed more power afterwards.
^ Note: the lightning kit is for computer controlled transmissions. One thing to keep in mind when getting the lightning kit is that it is configured for a single throttle body, and thus, intake parts would be extra to get it to work with the twin throttle bodies.
the throttle body does not matter. i left my stock intake on for a while w/it. nothing hooks up to any mechanical part. as for the tranny thats why i said any noncomputer controlled one. i converted to a tremec. the computer does not know it is not there. runs fine.
