i just added a 3in downpipe to my 1997 PSD to match the size of the rest of my exhaust. Has anyone else done this? did it change the way that your truck sounded? and also did it give you more hp/torque? if so how much? any info would be great. thanks.
sorry it took me so long to write back, the pipe made the truck a little bit more noisy, and it felt like it woke up the motor a tiny bit. but the real change was the superchip i installed. it is amazing how the truck runs now. if any body is questioning on buying a chip or not i highly recommend the superchip.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Apr-02 AT 01:07 AM (EST)]Did you notice any differance starting off. I drove a 2002 psd with the Banks setup, ie..chip, exh brake, trans lock, 4" exh, gauges.. I could not tell it had a chip when starting from a standstill. "May" have a little more pickup once moving down the road, but if I didn't know there was a chip, I would not have known. Maybe I expected too much??
yes i did notice a difference with the chip when pulling out, with 4.10s and limited slip i can lay down 2 nice black marks everytime i take off if i get on it. the tires are 235/85 R16. other than the pipe and chip the motor is completely stock.
it is called a Superchip Microtuner model #1700. they have their own website, and there is a post about them on the top of this message board. it has 2 different programs that you can run also. i just pulled my 20ft double axle trailer, with a 1974 Int Scout on it,a total weight around 5500#. it pulled it great, hardly knew it was behind the truck. i am not a sales rep or anything like that just a satisifed customer.
We have a 97 PSD as well. Did you have to cut the fire wall to fit the bigger turbo pipe? What steps would you recomend if doing it again? We're thinking about putting a bigger turbo pipe, inner cooler, and chip in ours. A friend bought a Super Duty with a PSD and it makes ours feel pitiful. Got to do something to bring power up for pulling our trailer.

I own a 1997 F250 crewcab PSD and installed a 3" downpipe two weeks ago. I have no more cab noise now than I did prior to installing it. You should however be able to hear the turbo wind up and down. If you do have more cab noise it is most likely the downpipe vibrating against the firewall/floor seam which can be resolved with some minor cutting/ tweaking. As far as the horsepower it was noticeable but not sure how much. I know that with the downpipe and a 50 hp superchip from Porta Products I can bark the tires at a standstill.
