Anyone know what the last model year of the Aerostar was a AWD? I was told they quit producing AWD and I would like to find one in good shape in the last year produced.
I don't have production figures but there were AWD models made in 1997 until they exhausted the parts supply. Aerostar production was to have ceased at the end of the '96 run but outcry from commercial fleets and public convinced Ford to continue one more year. Trouble was, the suppliers had ceased parts production on many of the unique items used in the AWD versions.
In my opinion, the best AWD Aerostars are the 1996 models.
In 1997 they used a composite intake manifold and went to a 1 year 5 speed auto trans.
I avoid composite/plastic manifolds and 1st year transmissions.
I have a mint 96 for sale if anyone is interested....gonna pay though.
Have you considered listing the van for sale on bring a trailer? Currently that appears to be the site bringing top dollar for rare and unusual vehicles.
96 awd green/gray two tone. Most likely the nicest awd aero left out there. I think it's got 100k miles. I'll have to look. Been in heated garage for 20 plus years. I used it for family getaways. No more family. Kids are gone. Has hitch and remote start. I have pics somewhere on here. If yer interested I can text pics. Or message them. Was saving it for car shows and such. Lol
