I recently purchased a 1997 4X4 HD with a power stroke diesel.
The belt tensioner sits at a 10-15 degree angle to the belt and
needs to be replaced. Can anyone give me some firsthand help
and/or advice on the best way to do this job? Also, is it terribly
expensive to have it done at the Ford dealership? Thanks, I will
appreciate any comments.
If it is the bearing giving out and causing the lean, I read a post on here recently indicating that NAPA could replace the bearing for $10-$12 I believe.
I wouldn't replace just the bearing. NAPA does have a new replacement and it's pretty easy to replace. If it's out of alighnment as much as you say, I get to it. If it goes it will take out the powersteering pulley. Cha Ching! Replace the belt while your at it. Took thirty minutes to replace mine. The double pulley rigging is ok if you want to go that route. Check out web shots.com for pic reference. What the fingers too!
Thanks gunfrk and horsecop for your replies. I will get right on that job pronto!
I,m afraid to run it very much in its present condition. Thanks again
