Has anyone ever figured out how much an engine's oil is cooled by running a remote filter? How about a dual filter set-up? I am planning on running a remote filter mainly for the ease of changing them, but figured any oil cooling I get out of it is a bonus.
If you want the oil to run cooler, just throw in a lower temperature thermostat. The engine will run cooler, and the oil will run proportionally cooler. Dont go below 180F though, since your cylinder bore wear goes up.
Why do you want it to run cooler? The zinc anti wear additive doesn't work best until the oil is good and hot, and having the oil hot evaporates water out faster.
If you're towing and running the engine at WOT all the time then you might look into an oil cooler.
How much does it cool the oil to have a remote filter? Probably not enough to measure. The dual filters would have more surface area, so they might run it a *little* cooler.
