remove the kick panel, locate the wire, and CUT IT. be sure you want to though because the vehicle wont recognize the door as being open. dome lights dont come on, alarm doesnt automatically arm, and depending on vehicle, radio/ headlights might not turn off.
rip,
Best I can remember it is under the dash and above the steering column, not easy to get to. Turn on your lights to make it go off, then run your hand up there. You can feel it chiming when you touch it. Un-plug it and remove it so you can see it. It's a small plastic box. Once you get it out, open it up (just a clip) and there will be a metal piece that looks like an "E". Remove that, close it up put it back and plug it in. It will be very quiet after that.
Still can't seem to get my hands on that chime box. Found something that I couldn't get disconnected to check it out. . I can hear the chimes but can't pinpoint it.
Probably not used to working upside down up under the dash !
I dom't remember the color. You can feel it vibrate when it goes off. I had to unbolt mine first then take off the connector. It was screwed to a metal support under the dash.
I have an 87 F150 and just dealt with this problem a week or so ago. Under the dash there is a white'ish colored box that has some metal on it - it had a connector attached to the bottom of it that had about half a dozen wires coming out of it - I simply unplugged the connector from the box and the buzzing stopped. I haven't had any problems with door lights or anything! As far as I can remember the box was to the right of the steering column close to the side of the center consol with the radio and climate controls - about where your right knee would be when you are driving.
Good luck to ya!
Found it and disconnected the wiring harness, as omnithesis did. Seems like a lot of wiring - hopefully I haven't shut down anything other than door open/lights on/seatbelt not fastened warning , etc....
I may tackle trying to unbolt that white box (the actual chime device) and take a look inside, but that I'm saving that job for the long weekend.
I have a 92 250 light duty, that chime fix worked ok on it but the old lady's truck is a 2003 F150 and I can't locate the equivalent box. Can anyone offer a quick safe fix, the electronics in that truck seem several generations ahead of my old '92
Hopin' to quiet it down so I can listen to the radio with the door open, Thanks in advance- Oak Creek
