I did a bad thing. I was in 4H on a paved road. I realized it, pulled over, put the transmission in park and dropped the transfer case back to 2W. POP! Whatever a "Park" is is now gone. Vehicle rolls freely in park. It's basicly another neutral. How hard is this going to be to fix?
Vehicle is a 1985 E-350 van w/460. Unknown transmission at this time. Does not have overdrive that I am aware of. Top and bottom are clearly marked with lucky number "13". Door jam might say C3.
I do not KNOW the answer to your question, but I am pretty sure it is the parking Pawl, kind of like a ratchet, and I am pretty sure it is internal to the tranny. Never had one fail so not sure how hard it is to repair.
