just a quick question, today when i fired up my truck, i noticed a little bit of blue smoke from the pipe for about 30-45 seconds, the temp was about 46 maybe 47 out, just wondering if this is normal.
one more quickie, when cruising down the street around 35-45 at the most, my truck seems to shake once in a while, kinda like the wheels are not balanced, but i just put new tires on three months ago and balanced, the truck is an automatic tranny, anyone with an idea?
The blue smoke on start up ok. As for the shake in the truck. Go have your tires rebalanced. Sometimes those weights fall off, that is an easy fix and cheap hopefully it will solve your problem.
a little blue smoke on start up is normal. the colder it is the more it will do it. if you have a chip it will do it a little more than stock. my truck has done it since it was new
A little white smoke is OK, but blue smoke is not. That means you either have an oil leak or coolant leak.
i dont know, it looks blue/white, i have never had to add coolant, and never have to add oil between changes. if i leave my flip chip on the stock setting i dont see but a puff, if i have it on the higher settings it will do it for a few seconds
I started with a little shot of blue on start up late last fall, now I get get a small cloud. Took it to the dealership and they are pulling the motor for a rebuild next week. Said its sucking oil past the rings. They checked the turbo and its fine and hasn't been dusted. When its cold and you raise the rpm to around 1200 it shoots a big shot of blue the moment you let off the throtle. As soon as it warms up its fine. It's a 99 with 135000 km and warrenty till August 11 04 or 160000 km. So NO oil smoke on startup or anytime is not normal.
ok, so half of you say its normal, and half say not normal, so i dont know what to do, so im gonna say $#@! it, and drive it the way it is, i still have warrenty left on it, so if it gets worrse i will take itin before warrenty runs out, ford has more money than i do so let them deal with it (and me, haha) , unless someone can really assure me that i have a problem.
A little WHITE smoke is normal on startup. Excessive white smoke is usually a sign of a glow plug or glow plug relay problem. A little BLACK smoke on acceleration or a puff on startup is normal with a chip or tuner. BLUE smoke is in no way normal and is an indication of either a coolant or oil leak. I think some folks are color blind.
well johndiesel, i do notice when i step on it, and kick it into passing gear, sometimes there is a little black smoke, and i did notice in the winter months some white smoke, until it warms up, and my truck runs super great, fires right up, lots of power, maybe i could be color blind as well, my truck sits beside my house and my house it white, so maybe it lookes alittle blue but really wasnt, i will watch it again and see whatcolor it is. i will report back later today, or tommorow.
I own a 94.5 psd f450 with 280,000km and on start up it smokes alot of blue smoke for about 5 mins. then it is fine the rest of the day anyone have any ideas what the problem may be.

I would guess that your injector o-rings need to be replaced, especially if you haven't replaced them once since the truck was new. The blue smoke is from oil being burned.
