(1976 ford pickup) I was wondering if anyone has done a rear brake conversion on a 9 inch rear end. I have a highly modified 76 with a 351 cleveland, Holley 750 double pumper, and alot of other mods, street race truck.
Welcome to the Site !
This has been asked many times so,
Maybe do a search for *Lincoln rear end* & also *rear disc brakes* while you are waiting for others.
Any '70's-'80's with rear disc brakes will work. Mostly they are found in the (at the time) high end Ford, Lincoln, and Merc cars. LTD's, Continentals, Mark series, etc... Converting to leaf from coil is easy enough, Bronco graveyard, in the sponsors section, offers weld on spring pads. If the axle is just a little wider or narrower than you have, getting wheels with a different back spacing will correct it, otherwise, narrowing the axle is not that bad.
Option 2 is, there are companies that offer kits, if you can not find a doner factory axle, like I have. Summit racing is the only place I know of that offers the kit, but I'm sure a lot more places, I don't know about, offer them too. The price is really not that bad, $619.95 for a complete kit.
I believe most of those donor differencials may be the 9 1/4". It's different than the 9" and will normally have low numerical gears. Desireable gears are not available for it.
