Choke problems
Hi all, '73 400 here with a mc 2100 carb.
I can't for the life of me get my choke set correctly. First there's the pulldown setting. If it's too far open, the carb backfires when i start the motor cold, but if its closed most of the way, the motor bogs down severly in traffic and kills. It's like a double-ended sword. Then there's the choke itself. Chilton's says to put it at 3-rich...now, given the problem of the pull-down, 3 rich would take forever to get the choke open so that the motor doesn't bog down during the first few miles. Now, after a few minutes and the motor's gotten warmed up, the choke plate is all the way open and it runs fine. But its the cold start that is killing me here.
If anyone has some shadetree methods or tips for getting the choke set properly, I'd be greatly obliged.
Thanks in advance!
