Question extra waranty

I'm fixin to buy a new to me 99' F-350 PSD auto SRW with 147,140 miles for $15,999. The dealer is offering a 6 month 6000 mile warranty on the engine and tranny with it. I have an option to buy an additional (up to) 6 year 100,000 mile warranty. Do you guys think it would be a wise or not wise investment? Not sure yet what the cost of the extra coverage would be.

I have never been one to fork out the extra jingle to buy extended warranties before. But those two times, they were gasers. I did get the extended warranty this time around due to the big investment I made. I definitely thought it was worth it this go around. I got my 03' F-350 PSD Auto, Crew Cab, SRW, 24k miles, tinted windows, sprayed bed liner, and DeeZee toolbox for $34k which I thought was a pretty decent deal. Make sure that's the truck you want. No matter how low or high the $ figure is, it's still a lot of money to spend. I spent more than I wanted to, but am very happy with the results. Good luck!

Galations,

I basically got the same deal as LuLu, only mine is an 02. I would tell you to get the extended warranty, UNLESS you plan on doing a bunch of mods it would just be waste of money should the dealership void it. But all in all it sounds like a good deal!

Unless it would be an outrageous cost - I'd say go for it - especially if you're planning on keeping the truck for a long time. Kind-of like protecting your investment with another little one.

Fire Rooster made a good point about the extended warranty vs mods. I did the Ford AIS intake because if I did the Tymar my warranty would have been voided(although I'm very happy with the AIS). And I think that anything other than intake, exhaust and gauges I'm sure your warranty on the motor or trans will be voided. But like Cat said, you're protecting your investment. Think about what you want to do with the truck... hog it out, or just use it for towing the family camper or fishing boat.... then go from there.

will straight pipes and or that thing you do with the B.B. void the warranty? I think that I will go ahead and get the warranty so I would like to know what I can get away with without voiding it.

I would say that you probably won't get away with much - all depends on the dealer though. An exhaust upgrade is hard to pin a problem on, but anything else and you might be taking a chance.

You can only shim the fuel pressure regulater (the ball bearing thing) on the 1997 and older engines. The fuel system on the 1999+ engines is different.
