NP435 clutch noises?
I have just rebuilt the trans (NP435 4x4) and replaced the input shaft.
After about 7 days, I started hearing a rubbing type noise as I push in the clutch. If I let it out and push it in again, it goes away. Sometimes it does not.
I pulled the tranny and replaced the throwout bearing again. 7 days later, same thing.
I pulled the tranny again and inspected the fork arm. All seems to be ok but did notice that the arm was not in the keeper on the bellhousing, but riding on top of it. I put it in place and put it back together with another new throwout bearing.
Three guys I have shown these thowout bearings to have told me that there is nothing wrong with the bearing. I tend to agree with them. It looks and feels fine. But I did not want to take any chances and replaced it. This last change has lasted about 15 days. Now the noise is intermittent and getting worse.
Clutch disc looks OK and so does the clutch. No signs of uneven wear or rubbing. I do not think I am over extending the clutch, it is adjusted very loose.
I am going to pull the tranny again this weekend and inspect the inside of the tranny and pull the clutch apart again. I have also bought a new clutch fork, but I am going to use the same throwout bearing.
I am completely stumped on this and have no idea what it could be. I am just trying to find any clues to the problem by pulling it and inspecting it all.
Any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I am pulling the trans and clutch assembly this weekend. I had a thought last night and I believe that the problem lies either in the disc or the pressure plate. I believe the disc is hanging up on the pressure plate either because the plate is not releasing evenly or completely or the disc is broken. The rubbing sound I hear and feel would be the disc spining between the plate and the flywheel. This would also cause the input shaft to spin, making it difficult to impossible to shift the trans. So when I let out the clutch the problem goes away and frees up the disc and then I can push it back in and shift. (At least for now)
Sounds logical doesn't it? I'll keep ya'll posted as I go.
Good luck w/ your problem & let us know how it turns out.
I pulled the tranny and the clutch assembly. Flywheel, disc and clutch all look good. Pilot bushing looks good to. I compared my new clutch fork to the old. The old one looks like it is slightly twisted. Couold be the problem. I put the new fork in. I used my last through out bearing and it sounds and feels good. I did not think there was anything wrong with it, but at the time I didn't want to take chances. I figured, if the bearing was bad, as soon as I put it back in I would know. No problems. It does seem to shift better than it did, but that could just be wishful thinking.
So far, so good. Time will tell. I don't know what else it could be if that isn't it.
