rear diff. gear noise
'86 F-150 w/ 9 in. rear diff.
Yesterday I noticed that I can hear the gears running in the rear diff. More so when off the gas, but that could be because the exhaust noise covers it on accel. Should I have a concern for this? I'll check the fluid when I get a chance, but the diff. is dry all around the outside, so there shouldn't be any leaks.
Last year I had a new pinion seal put in that diff. and it made a much louder, grinding type noise. Took it back and they through a new sleeve in. That fixed the noise. Is it possible for these sleeves to come loose or tighten? All info is appreciated.
