4 high disengagement

went to pull a friend out the other day and could not get my fourwheel high to stay engaged. It immediatley pops out as soon I let the clutch out. 4 low works like a charm though. What kind of probelems are we looking at here???
How serious and how much to fix???

Thanks for any advise

My 91 5spd does the same thing sometimes. I've found there is actually to spots in the high 4 (at least on mine) If i just pull it up into 4H it will pop out as soon as I really work it, or change speed fast. If, however, I pull it up into H4 and then wiggle it back and fourth a little it seems to fallin to a slightly diffrent spot and it willl stay there all day.

I'm sure thats not normal. I'm hoping to here if there is an easy fix to this problem.

Well if you can find the right spot at least it still works. Hopefully someone will chime in here and help us both out

i rebuilt a tcase before on a f150. it had little ***** if ya will that locked it into each gear. since ya both said that if ya wiggle yar shifter some it will stay in all day then its could be yar linkage slightly binds and its hard to find the engagment point or the ***** or what evr are starting to were out. i think an f250 case is slightly diffrent inside but not sure. id start by shifting the T case rite at the T case with a pair of plires/vise grips. ya should feel distinct engengment point for each gear. if ya dont feel a distinct engagnment point then its in yar t case. if ya do then its in yar shift lever probally just needs a little grease or its wore out some.
