What Gauges and install ?'s

Well I just recently purchased an 02 F-250 PSD. My first purchase was gonna be a diablosport programmer but after reading some and doing a little research I think I'll get some gauges first. I was wondering what all I should get. I want a pyro and a boost gauge. Most of the pods I've been looking at hold 3 gauges. Since my truck came with the in dash tranny temp gauge I wouldn't really think it necessary to have antoher one. I was also wondering how hard it is to install these gauges. I put my tranny temp gauge on my old 94 F-250 but this pyro thing sounds kinda involved. Any links or pics would be greaty appreciated. Thanks guys. I'm new so take it easy on me.

Gauges are a good start and so is a 4" exhaust if you're running a programmer or chip. Must keep the EGT's down.

Your third gauge may as well be a tranny temp gauge or oil pressure, etc. The factory gauges are junk. They are either on or off, you can have huge temperature/pressure swings and the factory gauges will just stay in the middle. The only factory gauge that I consider somewhat reliable is the fuel gauge.

Anyway, send me an e-mail through my profile and I can send you step by step directions for the gauge and pyro installation. I'm sure others reading this post can help out as well. You can do a search and find a lot of information on the gauge topic.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know if the OEM gauges were any good or not. I kinda figured they weren't super accurate. What kind of exhaust would you recomend? I've been looking at those too. I will be e-mailing you very shortly. Thanks

Not sure if yours is this way but my 96 oil pressure gauge is really an idiot light with a needle. I have heard, though, that an earlier model sending unit will make it an actual gauge. Anybody else know about this?

I have seen a few threads on making a "gauge" out of your existing idiot sweep gauge. Have to put in a resistor and mark temps with a magic marker or some crap, hahaha. Why bother with that?

Just get a "real aftermarket mechanical gauge" for your oil pressure. It's only monitoring the most important fluid in your PSD.

I have installed 6 gauges in my PSD and compared some of them with the "stock" idiot gauges. Pretty ridiculous, tranny temps can change 30 degrees and the stock gauge sits dead center, oil pressure can change 30 lbs, stock gauge stays in the middle, coolant temp changes 30 degrees, stock gauge stays in the middle.

Stock gauges are just plain crude, innacurate and have a very wide tolerance swing. Basically they detect some kind of pressure or temperature, how much? Who knows?

Z28Puller, I purchased an aluminized 4" exhaust from downpipe to tip. I live in AZ and don't experience the salts, rainy environments, etc. that most PSD owners do. Otherwise I would have gone stainless. I purchased the Diamond Eye exhaust and purchased SS band clamps from NAPA for all the pipe connections.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'm gonna order my gauges and predator hopefully in the AM when I get home from work. Gotta love 3rd shift. I'm sure I'll have more questions when I get them in. Later
