First sect is the block casting number
B9AE is a 292 in a Ford car or truck 59 60
and also a 312 in the Merc if you drop the oil pan and see ECZ cast into the main bearing caps.
I have a 59 Merc 312 in my 55, cursed with the cast crank and doomed to rope rear main seal (292 truck usually steel crank and you can get neoprene rear seal), but blessed with rams horn exh manifolds and 57+ 4v manifold
I guess I dont follow your concern. One thing I would note is that the Y sheet does not make an effort to say whether Mercury means M series Canadian trucks or US Mercury autos, but I think its the latter. One of the gurus should be able to straighten that out for us
Not concerned. I just got a good trail on one of these and its in very good condition and I am trying to make sure of what I am getting. It sounds like a real good deal. I am getting one of these with a known 65k miles on it and the guy did not even know what he had for ~$300. Sounds damn good to me. Ed
New cam, 4B intake with new carb, new distributer and wires and a real quick, replace all gaskets with modern ones and restore the motor. Not rebuild just clean it and paint it. Also blast out all oil and water ports. Ed
