Trying to remember when I got mine, you may check and see if there is a fuse dedicated to keyless entry or if it was combined with another fuse. I wound up taking mine down to a car stereo place and had them check and then install keyless entry with remote start....1000 ft range...love it !
Mine shows it combined in fuse position 6. I ordered a remote from ebay and it tells me to find a programming connector at the steering column. They didn't send me any picture of what I am looking for. Do you have any clue what it looks like and where to find it?
I would have to say if it has power locks it should have keyless entree. You can alway buy a remote from e-bay cheap and program it. My neighbor gave me a couple remotes and found how to program them in just a few second of searching the net.
Just put your ke in the ignition, turn it from the of to on position 5 times within 10 seconds, leave it in the on possition (not started, but where the key is after you start your vehicle). The doors will lock and unlock. This means you are in the programming mode. Then you press any key on the remote and your doors will lock if you pressed the lock key. This means you programmed that remote. If you want to program more you just keep pressing a key on each remote you want to program. When finished, turn the key to the off possition.
Just because its an xlt and has power locks and windows , doesnt mean it
has keyless. At least my 97 Xlt Crew has PW/PL and no Keyless.
I did find the factory connector though for the module taped off and tie wrapped nicely to the harness under the dash by the brake pedal.
Look for a module bby the brake pedal under the dash, it will say
keyless entry on it if i remember right.
I went with a Crimestopper Alarm with remote starter for my PSD
which has keyless built in it. Best $85 i spent on ebay.
Look directly behind the cubby Hole for a box with lots O Wires hooked to it. It will say Keyless entry. Programming for the 97 IS NOT cycling the ignition 5 times. It is for a 97 F150 But Not the HD trucks. 97 HD requires jumping pins.

Not to revive an old post, but I was wondering what was involved in that Crimestopper alarm? I have one that I never used for another vehichle, but it includes the plungers and all. I do not figure that I need to replace the factory actuators in the door.
