Hey everyone of you 4.2 thugs out there. I recently got my license in October 2003, I'm only 16 by the way. I am soon going to be going up a few of my friends in quarter and half miles drags. I need something that is relatively cheap (sub 300) but will give me alot of HP (20+). I need something to start off my truck as a good one. I know all you studs won't let me down.
Diablo chip - $230 between 15 and 20 hp's
- www.motorhaven.com
MAC Intake - $150 (and a bunch of other intakes) dyno proven for 12 hp's
- www.motorhaven.com
Exhaust - depends varies in hp
- anywhere you look
For under 300 dollars there ya go.
JD,
But from what I understand you have some mods and know what you are doing right? What should I, or anyone else for that matter expect for stock times? I have the lightest configuration F150 truck (I think) 4.2L, 5spd, Reg Cab, Flareside, No options.
Welcome aboard Homer! I am relatively new but I have to say these guys are really cool and know the trucks.
I do have to say as an older guy...
A) At sixteen, you may think racing is cool and fun, and it is (I still love it), but keep in mind you have to be careful and think before you line up. Sometimes ***** happens and you will have to react quickly. Ok, I'm done
hey do you guys know what the times for the 1/4 mile are for a stock 4.2L in the fords. Mine is an 01 and only had 39K on it. Can you guys beat other fords and trucks bigger than ours such as 5.4L 5.0L?? whats ur guys's best story of beating someone with bigger engine?
Stock times vary from body style to body style. Ford has so many flavors to choose from, It's hard to say. I have heard everything from high 17's to low 16's in the 1/4 (4.2L).
As for spanking the bigger guys, yes. It actually happens more often than not. We actually just had a very length thread on that yesterday and today. ("Check out Warranty runs out soon...gonna swap").
The 4.2 is just very responsive. I think I can speak for all, or at least most of us, that our 4.2 can hang with, and often beat any V8 Truck. But to be honest, I am not really sure why. A lot of people have their theories (i.e. gears, trannys, GVW, HP, Torque, etc...) But at the end of the day, I am not satisfied with even my own answers. It just is.
As for best race story...I smoked a Viper GTS by 4 car lengths twice in one night. I was on my Motorcycle at the time but hey, you just asked for a good story.
NO MODS.....except a bed cover, which slows me down actually.
he has a k@n air filter........this man is a lieing ladys and gentle men, and tom too..........there is just no reason to lie.....we are all so close....just no room for that..........kick him off the site
