Rough ride - automatic ride control problem?
,I have a 95 explorer 4x4 xlt that I recently purchased from a neighbor. It has 120,000 miles on it but the guy took it to the dealer on all regular maint. intervals and even had the transmission rebuilt recently. The car is running great except for my ride. He had new shocks put on it about 2 years ago.
When I am driving in the subburbs, I don't notice anything. However, when I am driving downtown Milwaukee or Chicago (home of crapy roads), I feel every little bump in the road. Somtimes I even hear some rattling from the bottom of the car. It sounds like the bottom of the car is going to fall off.
I put the car up on jacks and tried to move the tires around to see if there was any play and there was not. They are all very tight. I am going to get a grease gun and try to add some more grease to the grease fittings of the tie-bars and steering linkage. My repair manual suggested a possible problem with the automatic ride control. Is that a possibility? If not, do you have any ideas of what might need to be greased up or tightened?
Thanks!
Steve
