ok, i searched on here and found that you set the timing like i thought. so i loosened the three nuts on the pump face and rotated it. it was difficult to rotate, i guessed from all the inj. lines and such on it. so i got a small pry bar and gently moved it to where the mark was about a mark's width past (to the passenger side of the truck) the mark on the timing cover. it was past the mark about the same distance to the DRIVER'S side. i am told this is retarded. i was trying to get more power, so i just moved it over. but it didn't seem to make a difference. i am confused. do i need to turn up the fuel? or did i do something wrong?
your best bet is to have inj. pump cailbrated at a pump shop to make sure its still good and have them let you in on how to get the most power out of it.There are so many adjustment you can make on these things.
well, how much does this normally run? and where would i begin looking as far as type of shp prepared to do this besides obviously a diesel mechanic? i mean, i am a diesel mechanic for the military, but we never calibrate the pumps on the 6.2's so we have no such meters to do so...
hello i work in the exact type of shop you are looking for a diesel injection shop, so whats the story, need power?? or just starting to run like crap?? which way did you rotate the pump, to advance the timing you need to rotate it counter-clockwise when looking at the front of the pump or the mounting end of the pump, you can turn up the fuel but it is better to have a shop do it becuase it can screw up some other adjustments, we charge about 100 to just recalibrate a pump, but there are ways to tell if the pump is bad before you even take it out of the truck! let me know
Here is some real thinking for ya Josh ... you cant compare the 6.2 and the 6.9/7.3 diesels. You are trying to compare a hand granade to a howitzer (hahaha). Moving the top of the pump to the passenger side is advancing and you only want to go the width of the marks. That should get you about 3 - 5 degrees. You will have to hold pressure while you retighten the nuts. Just make sure no one else has moved things around before you owned the truck. And, if you ever get to adjusting the fuel pressure, dont go overboard there either. A little bit goes a long way. Try the timing first and get back to us with the results.
i did the timing. it didnt do much. the truck runs great, i just want more power. i am good at adjusting the GM diesel style IP's, but not these. i tried to adjust fuel today, but no matter how much i turned the motor (with a breaker bar) i couldn't find that darn screw in the side, lol. any tips? and where is your shop, Tom? i know you can tell a bad pump in vehicle, i do it all the time, lol.
I adjusted my timing today. I feel alittle more power. How far can you go.
I went about 1.5 marks worth. I have no pinging. Is it ok to go more or leave it alone?
Thanks
