My 04 screw will sometimes shudder. If I start it ,back out of the drive and shift to drive it will shudder when it first starts to move. It only does it when my 4 wheeler trailer is hooked up. The trailer is a small 2 wheeled 10 footer. it seems to happen when the temp is cooler. Of course that is when I use my 4 wheeler.
I am experiencing a shudder in my 4x2 screw lariat 2004 also. It has been to the dealer once and they repacked the diff. It is now back in the dealer and I believe they are replacing the ring and pinion. Not only did I have a shudder I also had a whinning noise between 60-70mph. I'm not too sure what their doing but they have had it for six days now. They tell me Ford has a sequence of replacing part to solve the problem, so if theis doesn't fix it I may have to bring it back for the next round.
ps, my dealer did not want to give me a loaner car so I called Ford cutsomer service and told them the problem I was having and it was the second trip to the dealer for the same problem. Low and behold my dealer found a loaner car for me to drive.
If you have the limited slip rearend theres a good chance its coming from the clutch pack in the rearend. My dealer added some type of "miracle lube" to stop the shudder. When that didn't work they replaced the clutches and the shudder was gone.

I have noticed the same thing, but it only last for about a second. I thought at first it was a low tire. It seems like the shudder happens after the truck sits for a couple days, but not all the time.
Ok guys, I just got my truck back from the dealer. They replaced everything in the rear end (rack, pinion, clutch pack, berrings, the works. They also said when they drained the oil there was metal shavings in the oil. I am alittle concerned because I do not tow anything or haul loads. As for now the truck seems to be good again, hopefully for good this time.
1000 miles on mine, it has started it to, mainly from a start, worse on right turn, than left. I think it is clutch packs too, will be taking it in next week. Doers it really bad when pulling the camper.
