I have a problem with the connection to my AC compressor. You can go here to the first thread for more info: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=234443 there are also pictures of it in my gallery.
I have looked everywhere on the net and around town and nobody makes a replacement diode/connection like this. I also can't find any in a junkyard. What I need is for someone to tell me what the little tiny thing right off of the ground line is so I can draw a diagram the setup. Then maybe I can get somebody to make a new one for me. If one of you fellas that understand this stuff wants to make one for me I will be glad to pay you top dollar for it.
Have you tried radio shack for the diode? I found at least one air conditioning compressor manufacturer that sells a compressor pigtail with diode. You may find them at local parts stores or aftermarket air conditioning installation shops. All you need to do is procure an adequate diode, and solder it in between the hot wire and the ground wire of the clutch, with the side that allows current to pass soldered to the ground side and the side that does not allow current flow to the hot side. It really isnt rocket science friend and you can do it yourself with no big problem at all. You might even try calling your Ford dealer to see if he carries the part.
Here is one webpage where I saw a variety of them avaliable.
Went by Radio shack today, fella said to go back tomorrow when there would be a man there that would know more than him about this kind of thing. I have checked the Ford dealer, and Parts houses with no luck. The only thin they can get me is the connector pigtail without the diode.
You said that all I have to do is solder the diode between the ground a hot wire. Did you look at the picture? There is a third wire that comes in between the diode and ground (solid black) wire. And then between this third wire and the ground is a tiny in-line something. I appreciate the web page. Wish they had pictures. I will do another search using some different keywords and see what comes up.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks alot Dave. I forgot to ask what type of diode I should look for. That diagram is very helpful, but I have that third wire coming in and I don't know what it is there for.
I looked in my Chilton's and drew this diagram of what I have and the part numbers. Radio Shack has the Diode online. I'll go to the store tomorrow and hopefully they will be able to get the resistor also. If not I found a place online that sells them. If this picture doesn't show up it's also in my gallery. Thanks all for your help.
How do you post an image? Not illiterate, just haven't ever done it.
That uses the combination diode and resistor setup. My schematics for most vehicles show that isnt necessary but if you feel it best to duplicate it Im sure it will work fine.
I'm not sure, but if I do away with the resistor I would have to go with a larger diode wouldn't I?
Taking the 27ohm resistor out would increase the current going through the diode 27 times. Am I correct? Volts = Amp X Ohm, right? So if you decrease the ohms (resistence) you increase the amps.
I picked up the diode today from Radio Shack. Got two in a pack for $0.87. It is rated for 200V & 1A. They didn't have the resistor so I ordered it online from a place I found. I figure it will be safer to keep everything configured how it came stock.
In Chiltons it shows that only the E4OD equipped ones have the resistor in the circuit. Manual trannys just have the diode. ???? I don't understand why they do it like that, but....
