I have read about people putting them on the inline sixs. Now I know a cherry bomb is going to be MUCH cheaper then flowmasters but thats the whole point. My question is, will putting a cherry bomb on an inline six make it sound any deeper or is it just going to be louder. I dont mind louder but I dont want it to be annoying, not be deeper and louder. I also heard that putting them on backwards helps out alot. Another question is if I do get one do I need to weld anything in or can I just use sleeves to adjust for the old muffler out?
I also wanted to mentoin I know flowmaster are prob going to sound better but its really about money right now. I just want an opinion of someone who has done this. I really just want my truck to sound a little better then it does now. Will a cherry bomb help or hurt. I do NOT want to sound like a ricer. My neighbor had a glass pack on his 4 banger s-10 and it sounded TERRIBLE. I dont want to sound like that, I know its a 4 banger but he really sounded like a ricer. I just want a little bit deeper and a little louder. I dont want to be so loud im going to **** off neighbors. Ok well enough of me ranting. I just want to know if a cherry bomb will help or just make it sound loud and like sheit.
Thats the whole thing I dont want to have happen. Some people wont agree with me here but I dont want my truck real loud. Just a LITTLE deeper then what it is. Actually if you listen behind on my exhaust it sounds ok just very muted. I def can wait and spring for the flowmasters if those will even help. I dont want to me trying to make apples out of oranges here. I know i wont get a v8 sound I just want a little rumble.
Cherry Bombs on a 300 sound like...poo
Open header on a 300 is loud, but also sounds like poo
Exhaust cut off after cat, sounds like poo
Header/High Flo Cat/ dual Flow 40s/3.5"x18" tips = good sound
Flowmasters are awsome, that said and the money issue, stick with what you have until you can afford them. If there is something wrong with the current setup get a cheap eco muffler and weld it in for $20 and in a few years when you have the $ then decide. As far as glass packs burning out I have never had that happen because they always sound so terrible that I usually remove them shortly after install. Plus they are really annoying on the freeway where flowmasters always sound nice and don't heard your ears when just cruising. just my 2cents
i have a 24" long cherry bomb that i bought form auto zone for 20 bux and i love it its not that loud and it sounds much deeper on my 240 i just muffler clamped mine on
Well you guys can rag on me all you want but I installed a 30" cherry bomb today. I LOVE IT. It is exactly what I was looking for. I think the 30" may have been a bit too long but I didnt want anything really loud just a little louder and deeper then what I had and its EXACTLY that. I recommend to ANYONE who has a I6 if they want a little bit of a rumble to do this. The muffler cost me $16. Total like $25 to install including clamps and and I did have to change a pipe from my cat because the muffler was off center. I didnt want something that was going to rumble my neighborhood thats what subs are for not exhausts. So again, if you want a little more rumble then I would recommend it.
Thanks Guys!!!
I have a 88 f150 with a six, when the original muffler fell off, I installed a cherry bomb turbo muffler from jc whitney and bought pipe from pepboys.
I installed the muffler right after the cat, installed a 90 degree pipe and a lenght of 18 inch pipe for the tailpipe, it comes out on the passenger side about a foot behind the cab. Its has a very low rumble, which is nice but quiet enough to not to get noticed by the cops. The whole thing cost me 50.00 bucks
Well you guys can rag on me all you want but I installed a 30" cherry bomb today.
Nobody should rag on you. You are free to do what you want. Glass packs sound great.......at first. The thing you should know is they get louder as time goes on.
If that doesn't bother you then you needn't worry. Good luck and have fun. That's what this is all about, isn't it?
pops: Thats the only things IM worried about. It does sound really good right now. Its very mellow deep tone. But I do not want it to just get really realy loud. I guess since I only paid $15 I could just get a nother one when this one goes. I will have to see how loud its going to get. If it gets really bad Im going to just get flowmasters prob.
I don't think anyone was "ragging on you" they just don't think it is the best idea. I like the sound of them too, but I don't like the drone sound they make, it tends to give headaches on the freeway. just my 2cents
