Sooner or later....
The other day I'm talking to my brother and he tells me that his boy hood friend, who is die in the wool bow tie all the way, has just traded in his Duramax four door for a new PSD Crew Cab. I'm sorely amazed. I ask: "why he would do something like that?"
My brother:"He had to admit that the truck has spent most of it's time in the shop, and he took it on a long road trip and was less than pleased. Then he had it off road digging hard and the transfer case broke. He had to walk out. He finds out that they have reputation for that. It was the final straw."
I reply:" How come he didn't get a Dodge, I just can't imagine him driving a Ford, in my wildest dreams? His family will disown him."
My brother: "He has a Dodge work truck and wants something with better fit and finish, for his go to town truck. To tell you the truth, I'm not happy with my 03 Dodge at all. It's already sucking in dust on dirt roads, and the cab is just so flimsey. Plus it gets stuck in four wheel drive were Mighty Whitey (our 97 ton flat bed Cummins) will go with out using four wheel drive. I'm seriously thinking about getting a Power stroke before the Dodge looses too much resale."
I remind him: "The 6.0 hasn't been exactly trouble free."
My brother: "They about got that ironed out, I think. There's a whole bunch of em were I live, that never have any problems. My next door nieghbor has 40,000 on his already with no problems at all."
Myself:"You could try the Dura Max."
My brother looks at me like I'm outa my mind for a couple of seconds, then smiles:"Yeah right.."
Also, I'm not sure what a truck getting stuck in 4wd has to do with the emblem on the hood when the tires and so many other factors come into play. Especially when the limited slip's in the Dodges actually work, nearly as good as a locker I might add. Compare that to the junk LS Ford puts in their trucks, and the advantage off road goes to the Dodge.
As far as the limited slip goes, there isn't a person out there I know of who is happy with the way the LS in the Super Duty's function. They are surely not worth the money. I can't tell the difference between an open rear with mine, I've even had the diff cover off to make sure I actually had one. Compare that with the unit in my Dodge, which will spin both tires on dry pavement as well as in mud (the SD won't even spin both in the mud or snow) and it isn't hard to see that the Dodges have an advantage off road with a posi that actually works.
