Hey guys, I have a 2001 Ranger Ext Cab XLT. It has the 3.0 V6. For some reason im gettin HORRIBLE gas millege in the city. Like out of 3/4 tank of gas ive gone 128miles. that doesnt sound right. any suggestions, Fuel Rails , Sparkplugs, Gastank leak? its like i can just see the needle drop when i put like 10miles on it. may have to just take it back to the dealer im just trying to find out whats goin on. maybe its just a gas hogg. tell me what you think and what you guys get city on you 3.0's
Well, they dont get great mileage, but the 3.0 shouldnt get that bad of mileage either. I have the 4.0 and it gets like 15 on good days. last fill up it got 12.09. I dont think your 02 sensors would be going bad so soon, do you have any check engine lights coming on, does it seem unusually sluggish?
how many miles? You could try changing the plugs and wires, couldn't hurt (may even be a good idea depending on how many miles it has). Also, how you drive makes all the difference in the world, I have gotten as low as 17-18, and as high as 29-30 mpg (keep in mind, this is the 2.3L, not the 3.0 like yours).
Have you calculated the mileage, you'll still have 3-5 gallons in the tank when the check fuel (gauge) light goes on. I get bad mileage in my 3.0 but its due to the type of driving I do, most of the time I only go 2-5 miles each trip. Under these conditions the truck is running open loop, kind of like having the choke on.
yes, this leads me to believe that i have some fuel delivery problems, or air/fuel mixture problems. Also the truck seems sluggish for a 4.0. Our dodge minivan with the 3.8 or whatever has more nuts than my truck.
