I am new to diesel trucks as this is my first. I have a 99 f350cc swlb 4x4 and when I went to change the fuel filter I noticed oil on top of the engine in the "V". It seems that I have read something about that on this site. My truck has 77000 on the clock and will be 5 in october. If I can find out what this might be maybe I can get Ford to pay to fix it before my trucks birthday. Thanks for your help!!
Or, take a flashlight and aim it towards the bottom of the turbo and into the engine valley. If you see a track or oil their it could be a turbo pedestal leak where the turbo bolts to the pedestal or where the pedestal mates to the block. "O" rings could be bad and need replacing.
My 2002 did both: leaked at turbo pedastle and hi-pressure pump. The warranty took care of both, but now I'm seeing oil again down at the flywheel cover drip hole.... hmmm... and only 20,000 miles on it. go figure.
Hey I just had this problem on my truck last week and I took it to the dealer and this is what they did. The mechanic at the dealer diagnosed as weak or loose couplings on the intercooler tubes. About a week or so ago I noticed a little puddle of oil in the V of my engine right where the intake manifold on a gasser would be. I cleaned it and in a few days there it was again so I took it ford. They replaced the orange couplings and the hose clamps that hold them on, cleaned up the puddle and charged me $100 deductible for the engine warranty and its been a week since and no leak! I also have a slight drip under my bell housing so I enquired about that and the mechanic said that is pretty much normal for the diesels so I'm leaving it a lone since it doesn't drip much at all if any. I just noticed a drip forming so I asked.
IMOP you coud take the rubber tubes off clean them and put them back on either replace the clamps with new ones or if yours are good tighten them and save your self $100. Just my .02
