I just got a new diesel and was wondering a few things. I want to know how long a warm up time before I drive, do I let it idle before shutting off to let some fresh oil cool the turbo, and what is the break in time period and speeds.Thanks.Nick

Warm up time for me depends on how cold it is, when it's below freezing I'll let it run for 5-10 minutes. If it's in the 90's, I'll give it maybe 30 seconds. What I avoid is hard accleration until it's completely warmed up. Cool down is dependant on how hard it's been worked. If it's a stop after just idling through the neighborhood then maybe 15-30 seconds but if it's after a hard run, then up to 10 minutes or so. I don't know what the factory break in period is but every new diesel I've had, I break them in like I expect them to run, hard.
I let my PSD warm up for about 2 minutes and then I am easy on her while I drive (I am easy on my truck anyway), easy (no real hard accleration if I can help it) until the temp gauge is touching the bottom end of the normal band.
I let the engine idle for about a minute when I get to my destination and for about 15 minutes after hauling my trailer.
Best of luck and I hope you're as happy with your Ford truck and PSD as I am.
Where I'am from it very seldom gets below 30. Dealer told me not to idle due to wet stacking when cold. So I just start an go most often. I baby it till it reaches operating temp. (1700 rpm max.)
I just added the issopro turbo temp monitor, every were I go it takes four or five minutes before the engine shuts down. It suppose to Shut down engine when turbo temp reaches 300 degrees. I don't have a chip so I was really supprise that it took that long to shut down even on a short trip to the store ( apx.3 mi.each way ) at 40 mph.
before getting this I never waited to shut down and now have 40,000 on it. I truely hope much harm had'nt resulted from past neglect.
Wish I knew about this sight sooner. Oh well live and learn as the old saying goes.
thanks for the help. This is my first diesel. The manual says to vary speeds for the first 1000 miles but only says to idle 5-10 minutes if you have been towing, hauling, or using the max gvw.I want to get a set a gauges to make sure everything is how it should be, boost and egt.I dont tow but occasionally haul and I do alot of driving and I expect/need this truck to last atleast 200k+ miles. Thanks again Nick

You don't have to but I do wait, it's only a couple seconds.
