Fuel filter, oil and oil filter, If auto tranny, fluid change at 30,000,engine coolant check to add the correct amount of f-16 and grease four grease points on streering. Check power steering fluid, winsheld washer fluid and brake fluid. I would also rotate tires and look for nails and inflate to proper inflation. look at brake condition while tires are off.look for any oil type leaks underneath, If any check those levels also, and check for loose exhaust shelds. I replace wiper blades once a year reguardless of condition. also check to see all lights are working at least once month.
I have a auto so I can't say on manual tranny/transfer case.
If I forgot something someone will be here soon to chime in.
enjoy your new ride, and good luck
over and out
gseeders
gseeders pretty much covered it. I bought my truck with 25k on it and did everything as mentioned above except I also changed the tranny and transfer case fluid. The t-case fluid was pretty bad.
Thanks for the responses. I drove it home today. It is just what I wanted. I plan on taking all the advise you gave and do a complete service. One question though, when replacing the fuel filter does is that the same as draining water from fuel???
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jun-02 AT 08:01 AM (EST)]There is a yellow tab on the rear side of the filter housing, twist this tab to the rear of pickup. This will drain all the water/fuel from housing. Place a pan under the drain tube to catch the fuel/water. I put a piece of hose on the end of drain tube because tube is bent in such a way to make a mess. use a strap wrench to remove the housing cover to remove filter. There is two o-ring, one on filter and one that goes between lid and housing, be sure you remove both. take carb cleaner to clean housing. Now install round o-ring on filter put a coating of diesel fuel on 0-ring and then push new filter on, take beval o-ring (with a coating of diesel fuel) and put it in place on housing, put cap on but leave loose. leave drain open and turn key to on but don't start.Slowly turn tab to the off position but not off all the way. This is to allow the fuel filter housing to fill and purge air from filter housing. This will only take a minute. Close tab, tighten lid and start truck. Your done with that part of the service.
The fuel filter is made by racor. Ford here in my home town wants $54.00 for it. If you have a International Truck Dealership in your home town or close by you can get them there for about one third the cost. you can also buy air and oil filters there for the same savings!
Air and oil filter is under the fleeguard name at International, same as your OEM just cheaper in price. Fuel filter is under the International name.
Fleetguard and Motorcraft. These Filters are exact in every way just different box, and also different price as you will see. Thay also carry your other service filter if you like there prices.
Wall mart has you oil filter fl-1995 on sale all the time for $9.46
I too just bought a PSD with 28K, only it's a 99.5. I purchased the extended warranty out to 60K. The maintenance guide says work must be done by a "qualified service technician." What happens if I do at least a portion of the work myself? Such as oil change, filters, and such. Will that affect the warranty? Some of the things I will have to have done, such as a transmission service.
