Winch choices
I know the Warn and Ramsey winches are good, has anyone used the Magnum brand winch? I see a lot of them on Ebay and was wondering how durable they are. I'm not looking for something to pull the truck up over a cliff or anything like that. Probably around a 5-8,000 lbs pull for dead tractors and trucks. Thanks!
If you are pulling trucks & tractors I would go at least 9000 or 9500 lbs.
The closer to max pull rate you run, the more amps the motor draws,
and the closer you are to stalling the winch. Figure the max lbs you need
to pull, x 1.5, this should be the min winch size to buy.
Warn is my first choice, Ramsey close behind. Look at the specs of
different winches, they vary a lot, line speed, motor size, gear ratio.
I run a Warn 8000i & synthetic rope on my Jeep, works great.
