This is actually a question directed at 286 Merc. I noticed an older thread where you said to be sure not to mix hollow and solid pushrods. Just so happens my engine has a new though incomplete set of 11 hollow rods, and the remaining stock solids. Engine is 292. Agreed it is not a very tidy setup, and one that I plan on changing, but what are the real downsides?

Problems! Dear, get the solid push rods for your Yblock and be done with it. The lifters were designed in the "Y" for a smooth tipped solid type, a hollow will cause wear pattern issues, and you do not want to be changing lifter in a Y at all and this is because unlike a hydraulic lifter, in a Yblock, you have to remove the camshaft to change a damaged lifter because lifters are inserted from underside in a Yblock. I wouldn't want the unneccesary job if i could avoid it for sure for sure....Janet
