I tryed to hook up the kickdown rod to my street avenger but it doesn't work right. I bought the bracket and spring deal for the kickdown. The rod fits on the **** but the lever and spring on the carb are all the way back and my rod will not come forward any farther. How do you guys have yours hooked up?
I pulled my kickdown rod, cut it, flattened it, drilled a hole in it to mount to the top of the swingset at the back of the manifold. I did this back when I had the Edelbrock carb. I even ordered their Ford kick-down conversion...never did figure out how that gizmo was suppposed to work :-)
mine seemed to be working..it would shift down as desired.
Gtex, on the edelbrock you have to order the kickdown rod extension and the kickdown bracket. The extension is about 2 inches and was screwd on the end of the rod. Otherwise it won't reach, I think. It seems like i need a longer kickdown rod. I tryed using my edelbrock extension but couldn't get that to work either. I don't know if holley has anything for it or not.
All I know, is mine works now with Edelbrock or the Barry Grant carbs :-) I think that just about covers all types. Although, I have not tried the Holley TBI systems.....yet :-)
You are talking about your Passing gear kick down right.. Mine was short on my 390..
I run a 750 Holley..and the short space i had to go to the hole on the carb.. I put a swivel pin in that has a theaded hole in it..ran some threaded rod to length up to the kick down on the carb and put another swivel pin in..put clip on the back side of the pins..and your good to go! -Russ
i found holley has an extension piece for $5. Its for going from 2bbl to 4bbl. I guess the engines euipped with 4bbl from the factory must have a longer kickdown rod. Thanks for the help guys.

I havent fired it up yet so I cant tell if it worked or not, but I simply flattened it out (lengthened) mine to make it work. It looks like it should work, I'll know sometime soon.
mine is shoerter. I attached it to the swingset...not the carb. Maybe I should take some pics and post them...maybe later... beer, BBQ currently interupting other activities :-)

What's the part number on that? I'm running without my kickdown right now since my 600 Holley doesn't have the Ford throttle shaft kit installed. When I swap to the 750 Holley (equipped for Ford tranny kickdown), I want to reconnect the kickdown, so if you could share the part number of that extension piece, that would be great.
i got the extension but the setup didn't work for me. My rod was binding and the kickdown wasn't working so i bolted the rod with the extension right to the throttle bracket and worked out the small details of the linkages for clearence and it works great. IMo its better than there stupid lever and spring crap.
