hot rodding the v10

I have a 99 sd that i just recently threw a rod in. I need to rebuild the bottom end. Has anyone heard of some nice after-market pistons out there? Is a port and polish an option as well? I want to get this motor to make some serious power if i have to go through all the trouble of rebuilding the motor. i already have full exhaust and intake systems and crave more power. Besides a supercharger does anyone know of some mods like these? Can the compression be raised at all? I really want to get the most out of my motor while staying naturally aspirated.

Check the Mustang mags,Manley makes rods and pistons for the 5.4 and i believe they are identical. The long + small runner intake we have is a bottleneck in the intake for performance, but great for torque.Crower can make cams, but it will take 4months and about $600 per cam.Check with VT Engines, Sean Hyland Motorsports,JDM Engineering. You can check out my 2 gallerys and see my bolt ons which perform great.Good luck.

There are guys who have done it, it's hard to find parts but it can be done. There was a guy in Colorado who was putting a built V-10 into a brand new Crown Vic, he was documenting the build as he went along and I know he had custome pistons, etc put in it. Look into Extrude-hone for the intake manifold flow, that's about the only option. Unfortunately his best friend contracted a fatal disease and this guy sold everything he had to care for his pal (V-10 owners are the BEST people after all aren't they?) so he never got to finish this build up. The motor did get all done though, so there's parts out there. The suggestion to look into the Mustang crowd is the best one, it's fairly popular to transplant the V-10 intop the Stang. Good luck ! Please keep us posted here what you do, who did it or had parts and what the results are, I'm dying to follow along.

I will start researching about those possibilities and hopefully i can get what i need done for under 4 grand.Besides the machining, i will be doing all of the work myself. Do you know where i can look into the motor the guy was building for the crown vic? That would be sweet. i will definately keep you posted though because im sure there are a lot of people out there who just dont think that a supercharger is enough. that is definately in the works however but i think that's a little further down the road. has anyone been able to get over 550 hp out of one of these suckers? Thats what im looking for so any info is much appreciated.

Thumbs down

Just my opinion...I'd stay away from JDM Engineering of NJ. (A) He's a Lightning tuner, supposedly, and (B) he talks out both sides of his mouth. In case you're not from the South, that means he can't be trusted.

The last time I tried to find his site he had deleted the site completely. He was auctioning off his V-10 and the new Crown Vic at pennies on the dollar to help his friend who had no health insurance, no job, no family, nothing but a fatal disease. Wow, what a sacrifice. I don't know if I still have his e-mail address or not, but I will look. I know he had someone in Denver originally start on the motor, but then changed shops because the first one wasn't doing anything. There's gotta be lots of Mustang guys around who can direct you to competant V-10 hot rodders. Being a mod motor should help immensely. I'll snoop around a bit and see what I can come across. Ford has a V-10 based on the 4.6 that they put in a Mustang and also the new Cobra prototype has a 6.4 liter V-10 making 600 naturally aspirated hp, so 550 seems reasonable. I don't remember if the TV special I saw on the 6.4 liter V-10 said it was or was not based on the Triton truck motor, it sure had a healthy exhaust sound. Good luck !

If you want a strong motor, you could always use the Lightning stuff. All the v10 basically is a a 5.4 with 2 extra cylinders.

Here's a link to a website that talks about hopping up a v10. The guy who started the thread is really knowledgeable and has a decent website with links to other v10 sites.
