Backfires after warm

I have a 86 ranger 4wd 2.3L, that has been backfiring for a while and now I'm at a loss. I had replaced the distrubtor and thin film, ignition ciol, map, egr and egr resistor all had been codes sent via the 'puter... It runs fine until warm up and then under load it backfires and losses all power and dies....
once it cools down I can start it and run it for a few moments but them same problems, any sugestions
Thank you I'd hate to give up on it

When you checked for codes, was the engine up to full operating temp.? The system does function differently when cold. Perhaps you should check for codes one more time?
And WELCOME TO FTE!

backfires

Yeah I was able to get it to operating temps. ran for codes and got nothing...
was reading through other threads and could it be the oxygen sensor.. I'm going to try that next...
Oh, It starts fine, particularily when cold, and runs for 10-15 minutes then, especially under load it starts backfiring and no power and even shuts down....
after cooling down, it'll start again as if nothing is wrong with no error codes. I was able to get a 67 code once..but I have no a/c
Thanks

Go up to the Ranger and B-Series forum. There are some very knowledgable guys there who, unlike myself (good guesser), really know their stuff.

I have finally found the answer.............
after looking and looking, the wiring harness that runs around th back of the engine on the tube from the exhaust to the egr, had its insultation worn throutgh causing a short, which lead to all the problems and quick use of electrical tape and waa-la it runs liek a champ!
thanks for all the help guys!
