I have a 95 Eddie Bauer Explorer. I am trying to figure out if my truck has the receiver for keyless entry. If so I will buy one of the fob's and configure it. Where is it located? I had heard it is in the jack compartment in the rear. I opened it up and there is a large gray box with about 30 wires comming out of it. This truck does have the factory alarm on it also. Please help me locate it!!! My wife will love me if I can get this working!!!
Do you have the number panel on the driver's side door? I would imagine so since you have an EB.... so you should be able to get a fob to utilize the keyless entry..... the key is to get one from the correct year.
Yes, the receiver is in the jack area. It is the large gray box. The only thing you may need from the box is the five digit entry code which will be on a sticker on the box. You can program the fobs without doing anything with the receiver box. See your owner's manual for instructions. As 99Xplr stated, make sure you get a remote for your year Explorer. Ebay is generally a good place to pick up remotes.
Believe it or not, Eddie Bauers used to have two packages, the base, and the premium. The base package Eddie Bauer is just like base XLT, no high-line center console with message center, not automatic climate control, no JBL system, no fog lights, and no remote keyless entry system.
So here's what I'd do, check if you have the keyless entry keypad next to the driver's door handle. If so, then you also have the remote keyless entry too. If not, then you don't have any kind of remote keyless entry system. Like what Mason said, the best place for a remote is Ebay. You can pick one up for $15.
