92 Bronco Top Removal

Hello...it's been a long time since I've been to the board.

I'm trying to take the top off of my '92 for the first time. Do I need a special tool? It sems like the "bolts" want to take a TORX but there is some kind of "nipple or stud" in the middle of where the TORX fitting would rest.

I've had some success turning the "bolts" with pliers.

Should the bolts come out? Will I need to make replace the current "bolts" once I remove the top?

I know it's a '92 and it's not supposed to be taken off, but I gotta believe someone has succeeded. Please share your tips.

They DO make a torx wrench for your situation. Some people have just taken a hammer and a screwdriver and broken that 'nipple' off.

Take the top off, PLEASE! Just dont forget to disconnect the third brake light.

The bolts will come out and yes people have done it.

go to sears or autozone, they sell the torx (called security torx) bits you need there

tamper resistant T 40 torx bit for the top

And I think you need a T-50 for the seatbelts

Hey folks...thanks for the input. I went to NAPA this morning and bought the tamper-proof TORX sockets. I had all the bolts out (except one -- I just cut it off) and the top off within an hour. Man, it's great!
