Electrical/ABS

Was working under dash and had the brake pedal disconnected from master cylinder rod. Hooked everything back up and noticed my ABS light was on when I started the truck. Light comes on during self test and goes out but comes right back on. You can hear the relay click when the light comes on. Thought I might have set a fault when I took the the brake pedal apart. So I figured I'd hookup my AutoXray EZscanner and clear it. Hooked up and wouldn't do scan with key on engine off. So I started the engine and press scan, about 2 seconds later the engine shut off. Running short on time before going to work, I just disconnected the scanner, truck fired right up. Disconnected batteries for about 5 minutes, reconnected, light still comes on. Figure I'll mess with it later. Come out to go to work and start truck, windows don't work, wipers inop, no interior doorlight/chime. Everything else works, radio, heater fan, power mirrors, turn signals, etc.. Noticed volt guage indicating about 10-11 volts. Also when depressing brake pedal volt pointer goes to zero(full down like key was off). Release pedal comes back to 10-11 volts. Disconnected brake switch, that stopped but everything else remains the same. Didn't disconnect anything else under dash. Checked all fuses and looked good. Any ideas on what I may have done to cause this? The volt guage is usually up around 12-14. I have used the scanner before on this truck. Wasn't sure if it would show the fault or even let me clear but thought I'd try.

I assume you meant the clutch pedal and not the brake pedal?

Did you take the clutch pedal position switch apart? Thats the only thing on the pedal with any power going to it......it sounds like you pinched a power wire and it's shorting out.

No, brake pedal. Disconnected from brake master cylinder push rod to move pedal out of the way so I could get a straight on shot to the torx screws holding the clutch pedal spring on. But I will check out that switch on the clutch pedal.

Fixed. Bad fuse for the stop lamp switch, gem, etc.. Took out 5 amp fuse from position 7 and put in. Dome light came on. Couldn't tell by looking at fuse, put a meter on it, showed wide open. Never seen that before on these types of fuses. Usually you can see the break. Everything seems to be goodness right now.

Glad you found it. I guess the moral of the story is disconnect the batteries before messing with the brake pedal...
