.............I'm trying to decide whether ....or ...Not , to use the rubber end gaskets when I reinstall my Performer intake. Maybe , you'll will have some recommendations as to use or leave off the end strips....., thanks, s.kuteman
I would glue the rubber end gaskets in place on the block with Silicone and let them cure, this prevents them from slipping when the intake is installed. Then use more Silicone, especially in the corners when I set the intake in place. Torque it down and let it cure again.
.................Dan, thanks for taking the time to reply. I did just Exactly as you said. They are on and setting up. My next question is......This question of HOW much area around the Ports to apply Rtv too. And what is the proper torque to set the intake bolts, and what is the Sequence to retighten them down. It would seem that the 2 bolts on each side in the center of the manifold should be torqued Down first. then , does it make any difference for the sequence for the other 8 bolts on the outer perimeter, thanks for all comments., s.kuteman
...................I'm using a Fel-Pro valley pan.
....................Here is what fel-pro says on their instruction sheet......Apply a thin coat of sealer AROUND the Intake Ports on the UNderside of the gasket to prevent Vacuum Loss...........Next...
....................Attach and align gasket to engine.........Apply a thin coat of sealer around the intake ports on the TOP side of the gasket.......
.....................Then, Never apply silicone sealer Completely across gaskets or seals. .... this seems to contridict the earlier instructions about the ports, but maybe Not, .s.kuteman
...............Would seem to indicate such. What they should say is..."don't apply silicone like you paint your house".....
...............Anyway, I do appreciate you're help and taking the time to reply as it helps those of us WHO don't work on engines ALL the Time to make an intelligent decision. We learn by doing but making stupid mistakes is costly when it comes to engine maintenance.......
..............beeboy , Your information is VERY valuable as my logic didn't seem to holdup. I'm going to keep this on file as should all others Who like to work on their engines.....thanks , s.kuteman
RTV is soluable in gasoline. NEVER use it on gas or gas vapor delivery.
Fel-pro recomends high-tack from permatex for the head/intake surfaces. It works, use it.
Excellent instructions are given at the Edlebrock web-site.
The rubber end seals are a joke, IMHO, use ultra-black, ala GM.
