'03 engine on '04 truck ?

I just went outside and looked to see when my engine was made. It was made on Sep 09 03. Since the '04/'04's didn't start until the end of sept. should i be worried that i got one of the defective 6.0's. I only have 1400 miles but have been more than happy no problems and hand calculated 18.5 on a 60% highway 40% city 40 mile (one way) drive daily. So not to get long winded but everything i have read about here and on other sites says stay away from the '03 engine. so did i just stick my foot in the grave or what? Thanks in advance for any info. (even if it is not good news)

triplethreat,

Yes you have the 03 motor. Lots of information posted around here about the problems it Might have, key word is might. Not all 03 motors are having problems.

Relax and drive it like you stole it. Just pay attention to your motor and watch for any of the telltale signs of a problem. If a problem shows up take it in and have it fixed under warranty.

Good luck and enjoy your truck

I have an 4/03 6.0 with a little over 5800 miles and it runs great. I get around 14-15 mpg in the city and 17-18 mpg highway and I have a heavy right foot. The only problem I have is that the transmission bellhousing is a little wet with oil but not engouh to drip.

Yeah, you have the 2003 motor. But, dont worry about it. There are MORE 2003 engines with NO problems than there are with problems.

So, jump in, fire it up, and take in that diesel smell!!!!!

I have an early 03 with the C94 injectors. My last oil analysis says that I have a very good engine with good injectors. Don't worry about what "might" happen.

Just received the oil analysis for my 09/03 engine at 4000 miles and it showed <0.5% fuel in the oil. Acceptable level is <2.0%.

You have not only the 03 motor, but the 03 tuning strategy.

The good news is that these make more power stock than the 04's (like a 70 ft lb difference in some cases)

The 04's are a little less quarky, though.

I know of at least three guys where I work that have late 03's and they have been well pleased with their trucks. Oil stains and other minor things have surface but most have claimed better mileage and set you in the seat accelaration which my 04/04 didn't seem to be as good on mileage or the same type of accelaration they had with the stock configuration.

Mine is a 06-03 with 13,000 miles and I've not had any problems except the well known turbo bracket drone. I can live with it to keep from taking it to the dealer and the chance they will screw it up. Enjoy your truck. Most have no problems
