I have an Aunt that is 78 years old and she lives out in the middle of nowhere out in the middle of some rice fields. Because of all the rain we have had the local rivers were out of their banks. For those of you not fimilar with rice land when the water is up it looks like a fresh water ocean. Back to the stroy. I having the only big truck in the family. They wanted me to go and get my aunt some clothes, her dog and some other stuff from her house. I start down her road and the water is deep, it keeps getting deeper. before I knew it the water was over my step on my bronco. The waves my truck was making was so high it was coming over my hood I had to roll up my windows and turn on the wipers. Made it to the house then had to go back to the main road. To end this long story I was in some deep stuff and the bronc never paused. I love my truck.
Woohoo!
I never realized you can take a Bronco that deep in water.
Great to hear, and it's a good thing you didn't break down.
Now I don't feel so bad making waves going through puddles.
Nice work, my old 84 I-6 1 barrel did similar duty many times, usually just me being an idiot though, for no purpose other then upsetting a few jeepers that couldnt make it through a puddle. my second 84 however, that was injected 302, swallewed too much and choked up 3 bent rods, so just remember, this isnt something you want to do everyday without a snorkel.
There are others with deep water experience possibly with better advice but:
1- Drum brakes can accumulate water and mud after that experience. May want to pull them off and clean out, or corrosion can really eat them away.
2. Check your oil (and all your fluids), especially if there were any leaks before. Water could have possibly gotten into those and may cause some long term issues.
3. Front wheel bearings could also have taken too much water and grit.
i did the same in my 94 and i got too much water in it and bent a rod it sucked real bad....it might have to do to where my air intake is since it is a the edge of the hood. anyway thats what happened to me
We had a massive flood a couple times in Miami. One time I was out in the Everglades for a couple days, and a massive storm hit and flooded everywhere. The house lost power, wife loaded the dogs and jumped in the bronco, headed to Ma's. The police had the road blocked not letting traffic down a flooded road except wreckers, and well after he saw the BRONCO let her pass as well. Took about a week after that to get my truck back from her. She said she was grinning from ear to ear!!!
Ran into this water hazard while wheelin last weekend. Not too deep, but enough to get me a little worried. Went right across with no problem, than turned around a did it again!
Needless to say, my project this weekend is to extend all my vent lines, and change diff and xfer case fluids. It was time to do it anyways.
