Hey weldind freak, I made the change about a year ago and it makes no differnce witch alt you put on. This is the easiest bolt-up you will ever do. If you go the wreaking yard to get your alt make sure you get the plug for the 100 amp alt and splice into the existing wires for your alt and that way you will be able to use either set-up. you might have to change the belt for a little shorter one buts thats about it.good luck.
Thanks, I have been looking at the aftermarket alternators too much money one year warrenty. Buy large case alternator at autozone and get life time warrenty for under $100 as opposed to aftermarket for $200+ the truck is a third vehical ( can not afford the gas (6mpg))
I just happen to be at the pull a part and saw one in a mid 80's lincoln towncar, that was almost brand new rebuild for $25.00. If you check it out some you'll see that the one for a car is cheaper than the one for your year truck. You have to play around with the year of the car. It is not a year for year item in price change.
Thanks I forgot about that idea getting parts from a car all alternaters should be the same small block big block truck and car as long they use the same regulator
Hey weldingfreak, there is only one volt reg for all fords with the external reg. so it dosen't matter which alt you use, as long as it is an external type.
