Question Borla Exhaust #140087

I seen a couple of threads on the Borla but non had the info I wanted. Just wondering if anyone has put them on themselves? Was there any modifications, did it come with everything you needed. did it fit perfect or did you have to cut depending on your box size. I have a 2004 F150 XLT SuperCrew, any info would be very helpful. Great Site by the way.

Simple answer for you is "get it!" The kit comes complete. No cutting, no welding, etc. It's really quite easy!

Thanks G.P. for replying, nice web site and pics. You said there's no modifications, then how come they the kits fit all models. But isn't the supercab and supercrew regcab different lengths? How is this possible without cutting or are the vehicles the same length from cab back?

I read somewhere that the kit comes with an extra pipe or 2 and you install the one that fits your particular truck.

Exactly! It comes with two pipes ... one for SuperCrew, one for SuperCab. You just throw away the one you don't use. Trust me, they did a really nice job on this setup! The only "setup" complaint (from others, not me) is that the crossover pipe to the driver side exit is a little low for some people's taste. The differential is still lower by about an inch, but some 4X4 owners are hesitant. For me, it's great.

All stainless steel, 1,000,000 mile warranty, great sound ... expensive (sure), but that's just part of wanting to mod your truck.

< EDIT >
"exhaust tip to weld?" As in the shiny/chrome portion seen in this picture? That's about 14 inches (top of tip) and 12 inches (bottom of tip). If you need a different measurement, just let me know.
< /EDIT >

I think they changed how they do the crosspipe. After I installed mine, the crossover is about level with the center of the pumpkin.

Hey Gordo, how does it sound in comparison to the flowmaster or any other exhaust out there? I really like the borla but also like the sound of the flowmasters. As I posted earlier, the Gibson I had on my 97 was rather quiet. I want a little more rumble

I honestly haven't heard a Gibson nor a Flowmaster on a new F150. I haven't personally heard any other aftermarket exhausts systems. But, I've heard the Flowmaster 40 Series would be a bit louder ... more rumble. They have something called "American Thunder" that might be of interest to you.

I installed a Aero Turbine muffler. Had to have a muffler shop fab the system, so that made it a little pricey. The sound is very good. I had a Gibson on my other truck and the sound changed but people didn't ask what happened to the muffler. With this Aero people are asking what happened to the muffler.

How about MagnaFlow? That's the rumble you're probably looking for.

I'm not looking to crumble concrete as I cruise on down the highways, I just want people to hear me go by and look around to see what was making that awesome sound. My Gibson sounded pretty much like a factory Dodge Hemi exhaust does. I just want a little more. I do like the million mile warranty and all stainless construction with the Borla, I'd just like to hear one to make a comparison. Kinda like when I was shoppin for my surround sound.

If you want to hear the Borla, there's a 6MB .MOVE file on my off-site gallery. You'll need QuickTime from Apple (large, but free download).

I'm running a Gibson single system (the only Gibson that will fit around the 18" spare on my Lariat) and it is not very loud. I slid the 8" tip out as far as I could and that did make it louder. I've considered cutting the tail pipe back a little further and putting a 12" tip on to get some more resignation out of it, but I talked to the Gibson guys at a recent trade show about it and they told me that they are designing a special tip that will make it a little "throatier". I guess I'll wait and see what that is. I installed the Gibson exhaust without using ramps in about 40 minutes (a little tricky getting the one piece stock unit out from under, but no big deal). The Gibson has produced a very noticeable power increase. I've been told that the single pipe system actually produces more low end power. I guess the other systems may flow a little too freely- like a Harley running drag pipes- you lose a lot of torque on the bottom end to gain a faster turning engine on the top end. Overall, I've been happy with it and it does seem louder to me after putting an Air Raid intake on this week...
