exaust manifold

Hello ,I have a 1990 f150 302 4x4.I'm in the process of replacing the exaust manifolds.I read in the haynes manual that it says to put some graphite grease on the mating surfaces between the manifolds and the block on all engines in the manual excecpt for for the ford lightning which requires new gaskets. My question is: Am I supposed to use gaskets ? I've been using gaskets all along ,which eventually leak.thanks mike

I needed some auto supplies so I stretched out buying them to 4 diffrent auto part shops.I asked all 4 places about their opinion on no gaskets and they said to use them. They also said if I was real concerned on the manifolds leaking to use some high temp silicone on both side of the gasket.Sounds messy but I think Im going to try it.

copper spray works great. It dissipates the heat evenly on the surface, and it will fill in minor imperfections.
