quick question

i just finished flushing my rad and engine, i bought one of them tees to go on the heatr core hose, (hope it doesnt matter which hose it goes on), i even pulled the two plugs on either side of the engine to let the water drian out there for a bit, so my question is, after i was done, i filled up the engine and rad with coolant and it only took about 22 quarts maybe 23, now it says that the engine and rad should take about 32 quarts, so why dont i need 10 more quarts of coolant, did i miss another drain plug some where? hope someone can answer the few questions in my post for me.
thanks

Have you run the engine until the thermostat opened? Did you leave the tee open when you fill the system to bleed out the air trapped in the engine?

i didnt run the engine long because i undid a plug just below the thermostat that allowed water to come out from the waterpump, so when i fired up the engine water was spraying everywhere. i didnt see a need to run the engine because i thought with the plug removed all can drain freely. i did leave the cap off the tee until coolant started to come out of it the i closed it up. any ideas mueckster

Had the block and radiator drains stopped running out completely before you closed them? I would run the engine until the thermostat opens and recheck the coolant level. If the tee you installed in the heater hose is lower than the radiator tank, it could still have some air in the system.

yup all the coolant stopped running out, and the tee sit above the rad and engine, so i assumed all the air is out, i guess i will drive it for 1/2 an hour and then check it. funny thing, when i drained it, i drained itinto a five gallon bucket and i filled that up and then i filled up about one more quart maybe two after the bucket was filled, so even 33 quarts didnt even come out!!

When it's all said and done you'll only get about 28 qt's in it. There is still air trapped in the system. It may take several days to work itself out, so just keep an eye on it.
