Bigger Tires

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have a question about tires. I just bought a 04' STX 2 wheel drive, I want to put BFG All Terrain 285/70/17 on it. Do I need to raise the front end to do so? The tire store tells me yes, but 4 Wheel Parts tells me no? Hope someone can help me with this! Thanks in advance.

with the front end raised the 2.5 inches there will definitely not be any tire rub, with out raising the front possible tire rub with just the right conditions.

While testing many new front lift designs on the front of our 04 F150 4X4 we were able to run as big as 315/70R17 BFG's (Huge H2 34.8" X 12" Meats...what the hell call them what they are 35's) without rubbing. Even with our smallest lift we experienced no rubbing with mild affroading and street use. IMHO the best all around set up was our 2.75" front lift. Brings front up to within .5-.75" of being level with rear, has an awesome ride, slightly increased spring rate which helps to reduce bottoming out suspension when wheeling hard, plus gains about an inch more droop/flex/downtravel.

Check it out at:

http://stores.ebay.com/ProtechEZLift...enameZL2QQtZkm 2.5 or 3.0 listed but 2.75" is also available.

or at:

Be sure and check out the photos at the "Our Rides" page!

Take Care,
Brian at www.ProtechEZLift.com

oops...I was off on the tire size the 315/70R17 BFG AT measures 34.5" X 12"

more on tires from BFG...

BFG AT...BFG Mud T/A are very simular in sizing.

265/70R17 = 31.8" X 10.7"
285/70R17 = 32.8" X 11.5"

285/65R18 = 32.8" X 11.5" for you FX4 owners

Hondo -

I just purchased Protech's 2.75" lift - And I received it today. It goes in on Wednesday of next week. I bought a set of 315/70/17's from a hummer dealership.

As soon as I get everything on, I will post my input / review of everything.

Hello Scottb1014,

Very cool...let me know if you or the installer needs any help with the install.

Remember the shock dust cover must be removed and not reused.

Hi, Brian. I'm going to eventually level my truck. I've seen two ways to do it, of course lift the front or lower the back. It really doesn't matter to me which way I go, but I want the ride to be the most comfortable and best handling. I suppose you've driven trucks with both methods. Which one is best for my choice? Thanks.
