Just wanted to post a follow up so anyone searching for information about a noise (noisy) coming from the torque convertor will be able to find some info... giving back for all the help here.
I took my truck in for to inspect the torque convertor based on a tsb I read about. Sure enough my torque convertor was about to implode. the shaft running through it apparently had about 3/4 inch of play up and down it had been reamed out. The shop indicated that had the convertor blew up I likely would have lost the whole tranny as the fluid from the torque convertor goes straight to the pump.
A new torque convertor and my truck is about 60% quieter than before. Not more rattle and clanging like before.
my 03 E350 just went in to ford monday because tranny fluid was coming out faster than i could put it in. They called yesterday to tell me it was the torque converter and then they called me today to tell me that they are on national backorder!??!?! what the hell? i guess i'm not the only one with bad torque converter...and my van only has 28k miles. ford really needs to get their **** together.
