Lately I have noticed when pulling uphill temp rises rather quickly... Then when I get on flat it levels off. I have notice Top Rad hose collapsed after shutdown. Temp runs right aound 190-195 when pulling uphill. Is this normal??? Always levels out at 180 on flat.... This all started last week after I ran front tank out of fuel.... Did not have any problem getting stated back up... Does this have anything t do with it????
I can't think of anything that would tie the two together. So it's only changes 15 degrees total? Doesn't sound too bad. Is the radiator full, (not just the overflow bottle)? Make sure it's cold when you check!
Yes everything is full... I just thought that it should run cooler. Am new to diesels but am learning just want to be sure.... Do not want to blow head gasket or anything ...
Unlike other's on this board I am not a stickler for oem thermostats. I'm running one from Napa. Been in there for 2 years with no problems. When I'm loaded I have a 70's wood camper (11 1/2 footer) on the back and an 18 foot jet boat behind me, so I chose to lower the temp a few degrees. I pulled this setup in 110 degree weather down in Arizona and Nevada with the A/C on, and never overheated.
I have tried a 180 from Advanced and found that I barely got over 120 degrees.... Does the Napa Tstat look like OEM??? I know aftermarket Tstat has a built in bypass...
WIll have to check out NAPA Tstat... and Thanks for the info...
The original stats were garbage. They had a rubber seal that went around the cylinder of the stat. After a while the rubber came off and got stuck in the opening causing that 120 degrees you mentioned. I haven't seen if the new Ford stats have the rubber or not, if not I don't see anything wrong with them. My Napa stat has a little notch for bleeding but it doesn't lower the temp any.
