Ok well I have a 1980 F-150 and the C-4 trans finally died, so I ordered a reman from Advance, well I get it and some one jammed the pump shaft so far up in it, none of us could get it out......so I take it back and get another one, well this time I had to take the shifting linkage off the old one and switch it to the new one, but i had a Advance employee do it for me, that was probably my mistake but anyways I get it home install it, put fluid in crank it put more fluid in etc , but it sounds like something is hitting in the tranny, my buddy said it sounded like a knock. So far all it would hold was 9 qts and the guy at AA said it would hold 11. Also it will shift but will not take any gear. Im thinking maybe when "genious" switched the linkage if he didn't get it lined up right, but Im not really sure. Btw sorry to be so hard on those guys but what "can" they do?
When I replaced my C-5, it came with the wrong shifting lever. I had to drop the pan, pull the valve body, and swap them. I did it about 5 times on the bad xmsn before attempting to do it on the new one. There are a couple of rods, linkages, etc, that need to be all put together at once. It sounds like maybe they missed one. When you installed it, did you put some oil in the torque converter. If so, that may be the difference. My guess is that the "new" shift linkage wasn't put in correctly.
Im guessing that also, I have changed them before, and I should have done this one, but I figured he may have knew what he was doing. Also I didnt put any in the converter, i was told thats why i needed to crank it then add and so on.
