I just bought my truck and dont have a owners manual so I have a few questions about some fluids?
Transmission Oil:
Engine Oil:
How Much?
What Type?
Is there a Royal Purple equivilant (And do you recomend it?)
Any Particular Oil filter work better than others?
Thanks Alot
Oil, something 15W40. Diesel rated, rotella, delo, something like that. I use rotella. get a motorcraft filter, you can get them at walmart. 10 bucks. Tranny, dont know, have a 5 spd
i got a 02, and i changed the tranny fluid and my manual, and dipstick says to use mercon only, i used some penzzoil brand atf fluid that was mercon/dexron rated and seems to be working fine, just thought i would tell you what i did.
Oil - 15w40 - should be right around 15 qts
Auto Trans - Mercon atf fluid (not Mercon V) - 18qts
My 00 specifies Mercon V and not anything else. Make sure to use a good filter, pretty much anything but fram. Use a diesel rated oil ( C series of certifications ). I use Rotella T, great oil. Make sure to service your cooling system about every 60K, put in new coolant and add anti-cavative additive, otehrwise your diesel will go to waste in a shrot order of time. Change tranny fluid every 30K, I would use V to be safe, V is backword capabil with III.

Huh - my '02 specifies in the manual Mercon and NOT Mercon V or even dual usage Mercon/Mercon V. What's going on here???? Aren't these all the same transmissions??
