I'm instaling a new clutch but I cany get My pilot bearing out, How the h#ll do I do it. I've tryed pring it with all sorta of stuff, I put a bolt in the inside to grip it with no good, Ithik if I cant if i dont get any good Ideas from you all I 'l bee drillingit out. Thnaks J
I just replied to this in another post.Pack the hole with grease, then take a bolt, rod,or alignment tool that will slide in the bearing with as little amount of side clearence as possible, pack a rag around the tool and smack it with a hammer, the force of the grease will pop the bearing out.
If you get a piece of rod that is a fairly snug fit,you will be amazed at what the pressure from the grease will do.Just pack a good amount in the hole.
Yes, that is the answer. Taht is how I got mine out as well. Pack that baby full of grease and then take a dowel or bolt or socket and pound on it. Thr pressure will push it right out! It works well because it is even pressure all across the entire surface!
I did this on a 289--got a bolt that would thread into the bronze pilot bushing. Once the threads bit, I was able to lever it out. Not sure it will work with the larger item you are working on.
they do make a pilot bearing puller as well ive seen them advertised on autozone.com i had the same trouble with mine i ended up using a puller and putting all the flywheel bolts on to the crank putting one of the puller arms inside the bearing so that it would grab on the other side to help pull it out then put the puller bolt face on each of the bolt heads and pulled on each side bolt to bolt till it came out worked good
